Wow!

[edit]

There's a lot of impressive work in this article. Someone's obviously spent a lot of time and research on it. I did rearrange the History section, so that it is now in chronological order. There are just a few things that could be cleaned up, and I want to give the previous contributors first crack:

  • In the History section, generally needs cites
  • Specifically, the section about the Louisiana purchase - Mobile wasn't a part of it, and neither was Scottsboro, but this paragraph seems to imply they were. I think the article is better without the paragraph, but if you have a purpose I don't see, clean it up.
  • The next tag I put is about Huntsville, which I think was founded before 1820.
  • Aren't/weren't Hollywood and Stevenson within 8 miles of the railroad line?
  • The quote from the bride is nice, but a quote needs a citation more than most things. see WP:CS
  • The layout of the newspapers and other media is a little awkward, especially as it creates font issues. You might want to put it in a table, or a simple list (like this one)(minus the indents and font changes)
  • There is also the tag someone else put on the "other" media list - this does look like WP:OR and needs a cite.

Just dive in and do it, and if you mess up a link or some other Wiki code, someone will be by to fix it. Audemus Defendere (talk) 03:51, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

November 2008 edits

[edit]

Someone did great work on the History section, adding cites from a couple of local histories, one a university press. I agree that section is now in citation good standing. The "modern history" subsection, however, needs some cites. It reads like stuff someone heard at their grandparent's knee. There may be a good source out there, but it needs to be added.

As to the Weatherly in the notable persons section; Some Google hits reflect him and the cited works, but nothing linking him to Scottsboro. A cite for this, even on this page, would be a good idea. That is my sole reason for putting the dubious tag on him.Audemus Defendere (talk) 06:23, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tom Weatherly

[edit]

Here is a page that summarizes his biography and indicates that he was born in Scottsboro. I did not add him to the list of notable persons and have no opinion on whether he belongs there or not, but he does seem to have a Scottsboro connection. Good 'nuff. Tag removed. And GOOD WORK on the article! Audemus Defendere (talk) 04:18, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scottsboro Boys case

[edit]

Please explain what is meant by an inappropriate tone. No one can dispute the importance of this case. No one any longer contends that this case was not an injustice. While the information about how the residents of Scottsboro feel about this case today is not based on a scientific poll of the community, I have heard it so often from so many different places (especially from my Scottsboro relatives), it is hard to believe that anyone would dispute those conclusions.

In any event, if you still do not agree, I respectfully ask how you suggest that the tone of this section of the article be made more appropriate.
