Talk page getting too huge to manage

[edit]

The page is getting huge, byte size, and is getting kind of funky when I edit it. 145,250 bytes prior to my posting here. Probably because of all the source links we've been adding. I suggest we do a sub-page for the sourcing. Talk:Liliuokalani/Sources and move the pertinent threads there. Feedback? — Maile (talk) 21:24, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Trial and people who turned against the queen

[edit]

From Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen:

The names of those who had informed, and by whose testimony I was to be convicted, were Captain Samuel Nowlein, Charles H. Clark, W. W. Kaae, Charles Warren, Keahikaauwai, George H. Townsend, and Captain Davies of the steamer Waimanalo.

Liliʻuokalani

Liliʻuokalani (September 2, 1838 – November 11, 1917) was the only queen regnant and the last sovereign monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom. She ascended to the throne on January 29, 1891, nine days after the death of her brother King Kalākaua. During her reign, she attempted to draft a new constitution in 1893 that would restore the power of the monarchy and the voting rights of the economically disenfranchised. Threatened by her attempts to abrogate the 1887 Bayonet Constitution, pro-American elements in Hawaii overthrew the monarchy on January 17, 1893. She was placed under house arrest, was forced to abdicate the Hawaiian throne and lived the rest of her life as a private citizen. This photograph of Liliʻuokalani was signed by the queen herself and addressed to Josephus Daniels, United States Secretary of the Navy.

As the person who edited this article yesterday, I am also to one who began the petition to bring such historical items back to Hawaii. Hawaiian History is my field of expertise and I was careful and thoughtful as to not input any biased language into the edits of this page, as it is purely for documentation purposes. All of my sources were cited, two being my own content but again, this is not to promote my own content. This was to document the process of the repatriation of the Royal Standard, how it was initiated and how it came to fruition. My role past creating an initial petition and creating update videos was non-existent. ThirdCultureKanaka (talk) 06:49, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
