Second piano parts

[edit]

What is a "second piano part"? --Camembert

A second (piano) part is the difference between solo work and a duet. Bart Berman's second parts for Clementi, Bach and Stiebelt are listed on http://www.notesonfranzschubert.com/keyboards.htm --Gidonb
Ah, so they're just additional parts to be played at the same time as the originals, right? (Sorry, I know it seems obvious, but it's just such an unusual thing to do I want to be sure I'm not misunderstanding.) Is that really the case with the Bach as well? I ask because the page you cite says "Right Hand Piano Part for Bach Sonatas in E Minor and E Major" which to me suggests a realisation of a figured bass rather than a second part to be played by a second person - do you happen to know if that's what it is? I'm just looking to make the article a bit clearer. --Camembert
He is not the only instrumentalist/composer who attempts to draw unrealised potential out of classical works, whether through completions or additional parts. If I understand correctly, in case of Bach he wrote the second hand part, rather than instrument part. The Schubert completions were at times the same, as Schubert sometimes wrote a bit more for one hand, but finally stopped writing both hands (in case of the unfinished sonatas that is). Perhaps the following pages will be helpful: http://www.notesonfranzschubert.com/composit.htm http://www.notesonfranzschubert.com/unfinished.htm http://www.notesonfranzschubert.com/completing.htm Have a nice day! --Gidonb
I've fiddled with the article a little bit - it seems a bit clearer to me now (I'm sure I was just me having a mental block or something really). Thanks for you help, Gidonb. --Camembert
You are welcome. Thanks for your questions and editing. --Gidonb

Israeli

[edit]

Um, is he Israeli? If so, that should be stated in the article itself, not just implied by the category. If not, he should be removed from the category of Israeli musicians. --Woggly 07:58, 30 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Don't know much about him, but he is listed on List of Israeli musical artists, so take it from there... IZAK 08:20, 30 Jul 2004 (UTC)
